USCIS case status · Review
Case Is Being Actively Reviewed By USCIS
What it means
An officer, or the system, has touched your file. It is one of the most common statuses and one of the least specific: it can mean the case was assigned, a background check came back, or a document was added. It does not mean a decision is close.
What usually happens next
The next status could be an approval, a request for evidence, an interview notice or a transfer to another office. Some cases show this status more than once.
What to do now
- Nothing is needed. Do not send extra documents unless USCIS asks.
- Keep your address current and watch your mail.
Questions
- Does "actively reviewed" mean my case will be approved soon?
- Not necessarily. Many cases sit in this status for months. It only tells you the file is in the queue with an office.
- My status changed back to "actively reviewed". Is that bad?
- No. USCIS updates the date whenever something small happens in the file, and the wording stays the same.
