USCIS case status · Review
Case Was Reopened
What it means
A decided or closed case is open again. This happens after a motion to reopen or reconsider is accepted, or when USCIS reopens a case on its own, for example to correct an error.
What usually happens next
The case goes back to an officer for a new decision. USCIS may send a notice explaining why it was reopened and may ask for more evidence.
What to do now
- Read any notice that explains the reopening.
- Answer any request for evidence by the deadline.
- If you did not ask for the reopening and do not know why, talk to an immigration attorney.
Questions
- Does reopening mean my denial was reversed?
- Not yet. It means the case will be decided again; the new decision can go either way.
