USCIS case status · Decision
Case Was Rejected
What it means
USCIS did not accept your filing, usually because of a missing signature, a wrong or missing fee, an old version of the form or a filing to the wrong address. A rejection is not a denial: the case was never accepted.
What usually happens next
USCIS returns the package and any payment with a notice explaining why. You can fix the problem and file again.
What to do now
- Read the rejection notice to see exactly what was wrong.
- Fix it and refile with the current form edition and fee.
- Watch any deadlines that affect your status; a rejected filing does not protect it.
Questions
- Is a rejection on my record?
- A rejected filing was never accepted, so it is not a decision on the merits. Refile correctly as soon as you can.
